DAVID DALMAU

A multifaceted soul, visual artist, photographer and set designer David Dalmau was born on December 4, 1962, and since childhood he traveled the world visiting galleries and museums with his father, an art collector and businessman. After this rich and diverse experience, young Dalmau studied Architecture, Economics and Aviation, although he has always declared his interest and preference for the arts. In 1982 Dalmau left the United States and fulfilled one of his dreams, going to live in Europe. He settles in an old fishermen's house in Sitges, near Barcelona, where his uncle Pepe had a small studio, and finally begins to dedicate himself completely to painting, discovering his own style and potential for different themes, a characteristic that still worships today.

His paintings have the tradition of European figurative expressionism, highlighting urban themes; His technique combines simplicity and sophistication with brilliant use of colors, in images of parties, anonymous crowds and the much-desired, utopian eternal happiness. At the beginning of the 90s, Dalmau visited Brazil to participate, as assistant curator, in the 21st São Paulo International Biennial; This experience represented an additional stimulus for this artist, always in search of something new, to decide to reside in Brazil, opening his studio and art gallery in the capital of São Paulo.

Today, depending on his exhibition schedule, he spends the year traveling around São Paulo and the cities of Miami and Barcelona. His works are exhibited by representatives or galleries in America, Europe and Asia. Dalmau also worked for some time for important image licensing companies, but he never stopped proving his humanity and engagement by collaborating with campaigns and carrying out social work.

Dalmau’s art and the joy of living. David Dalmau gradually gains recognition from sectors of the arts and Brazilian society, after almost two decades living in Brazil, the country he adopted to live and work. With temporary addresses also in Barcelona, Spain and Miami, in the United States, the artist - born in the country of Picasso, Miró and, among many others, Salvador Dali - demonstrates repeatedly that it is possible to build a solid artistic career, from of fundamental elements of the plastic arts: drawing and painting on canvas. It assumes these characteristics, without repressions or secondary concerns.

Based on these principles and with figurative painting that refers to classics of modern art, it constitutes a trajectory full of good moments, whether in recognition by a growing and generous public, or in consecration among segments of the press and art critics. Dalmau has found sustainable alternatives for his art and his work and bohemian experience on at least two continents. He recently exhibited in São Paulo and Stockholm, a series of paintings in various formats, inspired by tropical forests

He was invited to exhibit his work in Sweden by the Open World Foundation, an international institution that defends reforestation in several countries. In addition to considerable visits, the works pleased their admirers on both occasions. At the end of 2008, one of his works was part of an exhibition at the Louvre Carroussel, in Paris, France. In addition to current themes, such as ecology, the artist continues with the production that is the joy of his supporters, whether collectors or not, paintings that portray urban locations and motifs, the world of leisure, entertainment, the good moments of life in bright urban spaces. If urbanity, harmonious and balanced, is his main motive, there is an element that overflows in his work, - une joie de vivre - the joy of living in a world overflowing with celebrations. This ideal of society, far from the problems of the chaotic life of big cities, thus becomes an object of desire for those who inhabit luxury homes and modern architectural projects. At a time when the arts record and highlight cruelties and tragedies in the world, Dalmau's art is a balm for tired retinas, for hearts in search of redemption.
